Why on Earth would WWE have the Chiefs Super Bowl winning quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, acting as a heel on Raw with Logan Paul?
WWE likes to work with the NFL any chance they can get. With football being so popular, any connection to pro wrestling gives WWE great media coverage.
They got that when they brought in former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee.
They did the same when Jason Kelce, just retired from the Eagles, showed up at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. So, with Raw last night in Kansas City, it was a great move to use Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs star quarterback, who, as a three-time Super Bowl winner, is the face of the NFL.
WWE rolled out the red carpet for Mahomes, giving him the obligatory photo with Triple H, showing him walking up to the arena with Logan Paul and World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest before Raw, and having the United States Champion give Mahomes a shout out during the draft, which led to a loud ovation from the Kansas City crowd. Then WWE turned Patrick Mahomes heel, but why?
If you wondered why WWE would book Patrick Mahomes as a bad guy in a city that loves him so much, it all comes down to Logan Paul and Prime. It’s something Dave Meltzer discussed on Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer said:
“When the show started, it was Patrick Mahomes, IShowSpeed, and Logan Paul coming to the building together. He is the biggest star in that city as a babyface, and he’s coming out with heels. Some people were bringing up that this makes no sense because Patrick Mahomes was a total heel on the show, even though he’s a babyface. The reason behind it was because WWE did not book this segment. It was a sponsored segment, that’s why Patrick Mahomes was there because Patrick Mahomes is part of the Prime energy drink that Logan Paul is also a part of.
So they basically sponsored the segment and they wanted Logan Paul and Patrick Mahomes to work together in an angle. Everyone’s going, ‘Why would Patrick Mahomes be booked as a heel in Kansas City? WWE is so incredibly stupid.’ But in fact, it was not WWE that was stupid. It was something that the sponsors basically put together… So the idea is that Braun was going to attack Mahomes, which would have turned him heel instantly, but Jey pulled them away because they had no way out of the segment.”
