Chiefs celebrate another Super Bowl win at the White House

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden welcomed the Kansas City Chiefs to the White House on Friday afternoon to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl LVIII victory against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs are the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the New England Patriots in 2003-04.

In Kansas City, fans were glad to see their team on the international stage.

“I think it’s a cool thing,” said Chiefs fan Jake Brown. “It’s our city, our team representing the United States, what more could you want.”

He said the visits to Washington DC remind him how far the team has come.

“I mean shoot, it wasn’t long ago that the Chiefs were going 4-12 every year, so these last 5 years have been unbelievable,” he said.

Brown, along with his friend Danny Alderman, said that the team has built the foundation to win even more titles.

Talking about the Chiefs first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy, Brown said that if Patrick Mahomes “throws it deep 10 times a game, he’s bound to catch one of them.”

“You got to trust in Veach at this point,” said Alderman. “He’s killed the draft, he’s hit every round, why would we go wrong? We extended Veach, we extended big red, we extended Mark Donovan, that’s why we’re winning Super Bowls.”

This is the Chiefs second time celebrating a Super Bowl win at the White House. The team celebrated last year’s Super Bowl victory against the Philadelphia Eagles on June 5, 2023.

One of the most memorable moments was when Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce tried to steal the show at the podium and quarterback Patrick Mahomes quickly stopping him and escorting him away.

Following the Chiefs first Super Bowl win in 1969, Len Dawson took a call from President Richard Nixon.

The team was invited by former President Donald Trump following their Super Bowl LIV win against the 49ers in 2020 but it never came to be due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
