A photograph can be powerful. It possesses the ability to capture the raw emotion of a singular moment and preserve an otherwise fleeting snippet of time, telling a story in the process.
Over the next several weeks, we’re taking a look back at 10 of the best photos from the 2023-24 season along with commentary from Chiefs’ Director of Photography Steve Sanders.
Unlike in previous years, this isn’t a countdown of Sanders’ top images, but rather the chronological story of the Chiefs’ championship season told through some of his favorite photos.

Steve Sanders’ Thoughts:
Q: Why did you want to include this photo in our collection?
Sanders: “I wanted to include this because the play happened so fast, and Travis made an incredible body adjustment to dive and make this catch,” Sanders said. “He made such a major impact on that game. He was really playing at an elite level, and this play kind of summed it all up. From a photographer’s perspective, it’s also so hard to capture somebody fully laid out and diving to catch a ball like that.”
Q: Where was Kyle set up for this photo?
Sanders: “I often put Kyle up in the stands for games. It allows him to track the game from a different angle. It’s almost more of what you’d see if you’re watching on TV,” Sanders said. “It allows him to be super mobile and creative, plus it adds a different angle of the play. So, for this one, he was probably stationed on the third level at the stadium, and he captured a great photo.”
