REPORT: Details Emerge On The Outrageous Record-Setting Contract Extension QB Dak Prescott Is Expected To Get From The Cowboys

With training camp approaching and the regular season less than two months away, the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott continue to work on hammering out a contract extension.

Dak Prescott is entering the final season of a four-year, $160 million deal he signed in the 2021 offseason. The Cowboys cannot franchise tag Prescott next year, so he’ll be eligible to hit free agency in 2025 if a contract extension is not reached.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there’s a possibility that Prescott’s new deal could carry a league-high $60 million-per-year salary:

“People have mentioned the number 60, as in $60 million per year. The fact that that’s not crazy just based on where he is, what the numbers have been, the kind of leverage he has…this could be the kind of contract we’re talking about.”

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller Trevor Lawrence signed matching five-year, $275 million extensions. They share the highest average annual value (AAV) in the league at $55 million.

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff and Los Angeles Chargers star Justin Herbert are just ticks behind them, with AAVs of $53 million and $52.5 million, respectively. Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles come in with AAVs of $52 and $51 million, respectively.

Dak Prescott isn’t the only Cowboys star that needs a new deal. Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and linebacker Micah Parsons is eligible for an extension after completing his third season.

Prescott is coming off a career year that saw him complete 69.5 percent of pass attempts for 4,516 yards and a league-leading 36 touchdowns against only nine interceptions. He finished second in MVP voting behind the aforementioned Lamar Jackson.

Dak Prescott & Cowboys Open Season In Cleveland

The Cowboys will try to start the 2024 season on a high note when they pay a visit to Cleveland, where they’ll take on Myles Garrett and the Browns.

This game also marks Tom Brady’s debut as an analyst for the “NFL on FOX”. The seven-time Super Bowl champion enters year one of a 10-year, $375 million deal that he agreed to in 2022.
