Lions News: NFL Films employees falling in love with Detroit

After “Hard Knocks” and “Receiver,” NFL Films employees are starting to fall in love with the Detroit Lions organization.

On Wednesday, NFL Films and Netflix dropped all eight episodes of the docuseries “Receiver.” The show follows five NFL receivers, including Detroit Lions wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, as they navigate through the 2023 season.

For the Lions, this is the second consecutive season with NFL Films crew crawling all over the team facility. In 2022, the Lions were featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” documentary series, covering the team’s training camp.

Over at The Athletic, writer Colton Pouncy talked with Shannon Furman of NFL Films, who worked on both “Hard Knocks” and “Receiver,” and she admitted that it’s hard not to fall in love with both St. Brown and the Lions organization.

“They’ve just been so welcoming to us,” Furman told The Athletic. “They trust us, they trust me and the crew that I work with. […] We’re not supposed to be fans and everything, but it’s hard not to become a fan when you’ve been around a team like that. You root for good people, and it feels like that’s what the Lions organization is right now—it’s a lot of good people who are just working really hard to try and do this for the city, and all of that feels so genuine. It’s been really fun to be part of it.”

Pouncy’s entire piece on NFL Films and St. Brown emergence as a national superstar is well worth your time and a nice complementary piece to the “Receiver” show. Pouncy also added this little nugget outside of the article:

Positive health update from Barry Sanders, who had a health scare during Father’s Day weekend:

You probably saw Aidan Hutchinson at the Rocket Mortgage Classic golf tournament a little while back, but you probably didn’t see the awesome humanitarian work he did while there:

Kerby Joseph landed on CBS Sports’ “All-Breakout Team” for the 2024 season, and dropped this crazy stat:

Earlier in the week, we discussed Joe Burrow’s proposal for a second bye week if/when the league moves to an 18-game schedule. Clearly, Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone didn’t appreciate Burrow so openly talking about the 18-game schedule as a foregone conclusion:

David Montgomery is a freakin’ beast:

Speaking of Montgomery, he joined Iowa State podcast “Kickin’ It’ for a wide-sprawling conversation.
