A Hallmark Christmas movie about the Chiefs is set to begin filming in KC

Shortly before the Chiefs started the playoffs in January, the team made a trailer for a fictional Hallmark Christmas movie.

That apparently struck a chord with Hallmark, because an actual movie will be coming later this year.

The Chiefs announced Tuesday that they had joined with Hallmark, the NFL and Skydance Sports for a holiday movie called “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.”

Production of the movie begins next month, and it will be shot entirely in Kansas City, including at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The film will star Hunter King and Tyler Hynes, who both have appeared in a number of Hallmark movies.

Emmy Award nominee Ed Begley Jr., who has starred in “Better Call Saul” and “Arrested Development,” also will be in the movie. Here is a synopsis of the film via a news release: “Alana Higman (King) is sure that her family’s lifelong history as Kansas City Chiefs superfans makes them a frontrunner to win the team’s ‘Fan of the Year’ contest. Derrick (Hynes), Director of Fan Engagement, is tasked with evaluating how Alana and her family stack up against the other two finalists.

As the pair spends time together, it’s clear there’s a spark between them but when her grandfather’s (Begley Jr.) vintage Chiefs, good luck winter hat goes missing, Alana begins to doubt everything she believed about fate, destiny and even questions her future with Derrick — unless, that is, a little Christmas magic can throw a Hail Mary.”

Yep, that sure sounds like a Hallmark movie. Chiefs president Mark Donovan said the team was honored to partner with Hallmark for the film.

“As a club, we pride ourselves on exploring new ways to grow our brand, as well as connect with new audiences,” Donovan said in a news release. “This partnership unites two passionate fanbases and gives us an opportunity to show Chiefs Kingdom’s energy and tradition on one of the most-watched channels during the holiday season.”
