The Kansas City Chiefs selected Xavier Worthy with the No. 28 pick in the 2024 NFL draft to shore up their receiving corps after an underwhelming performance from the group last season.
General manager Brett Veach has targeted the position at every stage of the offseason so far. One of his first moves when the new league year started was to cut Marquez Valdes-Scantling, which was followed by Veach’s decision to sign Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency.
Then, in last week’s draft, he picked Worthy, who should pair well with Brown and second-year pass catcher Rashee Rice next season.
The arrival of Worthy and Brown was a signal to other veterans on Kansas City’s depth chart, especially Kadarius Toney, whose performance in 2023 was emblematic of the Chiefs’ offensive inconsistencies.
On Thursday, Kansas City declined Toney’s fifth-year option, setting the stage for a make-or-break season for him in 2024.
