KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Months after his involvement in a six-car crash that made national headlines, Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice says he’s leaning on his team and the Kansas City community to “move forward.”
On March 30, 2024, Rice was driving a Lamborghini that was involved in a six-car crash on a Dallas highway, his attorney confirmed in April. The crash left several people injured, and Rice faces eight charges for his role.
Two weeks after the incident, Rice turned himself in to the Glenn Heights Police Department and was released on bond.
At the time, his attorney Royce West emphasized that Rice was fully cooperative with law enforcement and understood the gravity of his actions.
“He’s a young man who made a mistake. How many of you have made a mistake? If you’re judged by that mistake that you’ve made, is that fair?” West said. “I’ll tell you this, by the Grace of God somebody could’ve been injured, I mean seriously injured. He understands and appreciates that, that’s why he said he’s gonna be responsible for making certain that the victims are made home.”
On Saturday, Rice attended Pat Clarke’s “Dream Big” youth football camp with fellow Chiefs wide receivers Skyy Moore, Xavier Worthy, Justyn Ross and Marquis Brown.
There, Rice made his first public comment since the crash and echoed his attorney’s previous sentiment, saying he “learned so much” from the incident and that “all [he] can do is mature and continue to grow.”
When asked what advice he would give to young kids about learning from their mistakes, Rice said he “wouldn’t necessarily say, you know, ‘make mistakes,’ but in order to learn in life, you have to make some type of mistake.”
To move past the incident, Rice said he’s “taking life day by day” and “being grateful for every day.”
He said he’s leaned on his team and “being back on the field, just knowing that the Kansas City community and the team, they got my back all the way.”
“Accidents and stuff like that happen,” Rice said, “But all you can do is kinda move forward and walk around being the same person… and be positive so that everyone can feel your love and great energy.”
The “Dream Big” camp was hosted at Central High School. Sponsors included Gates BBQ, Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ, and the Oak Park Neighborhood Association.
