With the NFL season set to kick off in a week when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens, one would expect Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce to be fully focused on the game and the season ahead.
But it appears that he’s deep in the throes of his Lover era – with his girlfriend Taylor Swift still at the top of his mind.
The tight end uttered a comment on Wednesday night while on-stage with Patrick Mahomes and some other Chiefs stars at the team’s annual Kickoff Luncheon at the Loews Kansas City Hotel in Missouri.
Mitch Holthus, the voice of the Chiefs and the host of the event, spoke about how much love he had for everyone on the stage.
Both Mahomes and Kelce returned the favor with ‘I Love Yous’ of their own.
However, when Holthus asked Kelce if his love for him was greater than the love he has for Swift, the tight end replied, ‘Maybe not.’
That led to laughs from the entire crowd before the topic then swiftly returned to football.
But that was not the only time that Swift was brought up in the discussion.
Chiefs pass rusher Chris Jones joked that a Lombardi Trophy was only one thing he hoped to bring back to Kansas City – he also wanted ‘more Swifties’.
Kelce then assured his teammate, ‘They’re on the way.’
This comes amid rumors being spread about Kelce potentially purchasing an engagement ring for Swift.
On the eve of the new season, NFL insider Adam Schefter dropped a major hint that Travis may well have purchased an engagement ring just over a year since his romance with Taylor began.
Schefter – one of the most reputable reporters in the sport – jokingly interrogated ESPN host Laura Rutledge when she reacted to news about Kelce buying a racehorse with a Swift-themed name by quipping that he is yet to buy a ring.
‘Wait, I have a question,’ he said. ‘Laura, how do you know that Travis Kelce didn’t buy an engagement ring?’
Rutledge replied: ‘I don’t know. Do you know? Are you gonna break some big news here?’
Scheftler paused while looking very coy before adding: ‘I’m just saying that you said he didn’t buy an engagement ring, and I’m wondering how you have that information.’
Two-time NFL champion Booger McFarland then said: ‘Whoah, whoah, whoah… the awkward silence right there speaks volumes. Schefty do you know something?
‘America wants to know.’
But Schefter responded: ‘All I did was ask a question about how Laura knew he hasn’t bought an engagement ring. That’s all I was doing.’
