WATCH: “Has to be a culture shock” – Xavier Worthy’s ‘unimpressed’ expression over Chiefs’ low-rated locker room makes NFL fans poke fun

Worthy, a Texas native, comes from a state known for top-tier college facilities.

Xavier Worthy must have thought that the back-to-back Super Bowl Champions must have state-of-the-art equipment in their facility. Yet when he arrived to check out the place on Friday, he did not appear to be too impressed.

A day earlier, the Chiefs selected the speedster out of the Texas Longhorns as their first pick (28th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit. A dream come true for the 21-year-old, who had desired to receive passes from Patrick Mahomes.

Worthy even messaged the Chiefs’ social media team two days prior to the draft so that they would get a heads-up. It worked as Chiefs general manager Brett Veach traded with the Buffalo Bills and went down the selection order to make it happen.

Fans on social media react to Xavier Worthy’s awkward visit to the Chiefs facility

Worthy flew down from Texas to Kansas City to familiarize himself with the surroundings. As one of the staff members showed him around the hood, the cameras zoomed in on him several times.

The excitement that he showed when they announced he was Chief was missing. Worthy seemed slightly disappointed with the prospect of what he has to work with once practice starts.

Why did Worthy appear unimpressed by the Kansas City Chiefs facility tour?

The Chiefs have amazing athletes like Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce. Yet, they don’t have the best reputation when it comes to providing them with top-notch resources. As recently as last year, the Chiefs indoor complex did not have air conditioning.

It became a massive talking point when the Chiefs players rated Clark Hunt an “F -” during the NFLPA annual team report cards. This was the lowest grade an owner can have in the league. Clark’s alleged unwillingness to invest in the facilities landed him in trouble. Kansas City was ranked 31 of 32 for player working conditions in the league in 2023.

To rub salt in the wounds, All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones praised the Chiefs’ bitter rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders facility when they used the practice ground to train before the Super Bowl earlier this year. Several Chiefs players have since come forward complaining about the lack of support they get from the owners.

Hunt, however, refuted the claims, providing the investment details his family and firm have made over the years. The Athletic spoke with Hunt, who claimed it was ‘miscommunication.’

I have spoken to some of our veteran players about that, and they’ve confirmed to me that it was miscommunication. We are making some pretty significant investments in the training facility this year.
Clark Hunt said

Xavier Worthy’s reaction during the visit tells a different story. Hailing from Texas, where everything is big, including the facilities, it must have been a cultural shock for him to witness, perhaps, subpar resources.
